During last nights win over the Dallas Stars, Michael Peca was thrown out of the game for making contact with a referee.
Okay, so I didn’t get to see the opening game of the season because of work and had to keep up to date with various “gamecenter” refresh modules, so I didn’t see exactly what happened.
Firstly, any infraction done to a referee will be punishable to the extreme and it should be done with the intention of holding true to the standards of any professional sport.
But I have a hard time seeing Michael Peca having to face a 20 game suspension for “The only contact was me grabbing his arm to slow him down,” Peca said, “because he was skating away and I wanted to plead my case.” according to The Columbus Dispatch.
“They’ve claiming I hit (a) linesman with my stick after I hit the glass with it, which is completely false.”
He’ll fight for appeal and probably should.
Anhoo…
So the Stars dropped the season opener. By all accounts it sounded like an exciting game to watch from a purely entertainment standpoint.
Obvious concerns arise in the defense department. We’re without Sergei Zubov and his leadership is sorely missed right now.
Tonight we face the Nashville Predators and the game just started. Let’s hope this one comes out with a “W”.
Of course I’m at work again tonight, so I’ll miss the game, but it’s being recorded on my DVR so I’ll go through it tomorrow and report what I see.
Until then…
